  • Overview

    SJS Executives is seeking an experienced locksmith. Our ideal candidate will be skilled in the use of tools of the trade, such as, files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, powered tools, key duplicating and coding machines, grinders and buffers, stamping machines, electric drills, acetylene torches, soldering irons and brazing torches, bench lathes and drill presses. The candidate will also have a working knowledge of making repairs to GSA containers in order to bring them back to GSA specifications upon completion of work, and knowledge of safety procedures. 

    Responsibilities

    • Repairs, overhauls, modifies, tests, and installs a variety of locking devices
    • Manufacturing and duplicating keys and the keying and combination locking mechanisms
    • Plans and lays out the work
    • Reads appropriate guidelines, manufacturer drawings, diagrams, and technical manuals to determine project requirements
    • Determines the work sequence, selects tools and techniques to be applied. Reshapes, reworks, and
      finishes parts and fabricates parts to close fits
    • Performs full installation and repair cycle on commercially manufactured locking devices, as well as reworking of locks to improve or provide new structural or functional capabilities
    • Modifies and reworks locking devices 
    • Improvises trade techniques to adapt locking mechanisms for uses to which they were not specifically designed, or, to hamper or prevent the use of standard neutralization techniques
    • Applies sound judgment in selecting, reworking or finishing substitute parts, and experimenting with materials and techniques
    • Works with drawings or specifications that are often vague or incomplete, which frequently requires the development of sketches, drawings, or diagrams with sufficient detail to identify missing tolerances, dimensions, and critical parts or surfaces
    • Selects appropriate materials considering such
      factors as, needed strength and hardness, machining characteristics, environmental factors, and extent to which the materials used could complicate or hamper the use of standard neutralization techniques
    • Uses and maintains tools common to the trade such as, files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, powered tools, key duplicating and coding machines, grinders and buffers, stamping machines, electric drills, acetylene torches, soldering irons and brazing torches, bench lathes and drill presses
    • Performs clean-up duties, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up equipment in assigned areas
    • Knowledge of the construction, operation, and functional characteristics of the full range of locking devices and skill in manufacturing replacement parts, devising or changing combinations, establishing master keying systems, neutralizing lockouts, and a variety of installation and repair processes

    Qualifications

    • U.S. Citizen - Proof of Citizenship Required
    • Valid State Driver's License
    • Ability to obtain base access
    • 4 or more years of experience
    • May be required to lift items weighing approximately between 15 pound 50 pounds and heavier weights with assistance
