Wide Wood Crafter serves as a Journeyman Carpenter/woodcrafter assigned to the Carpenter Shop, M & O Section, Engineering Department The duties involve construction, alteration and repair.
Measures, cuts, constructs or repairs wood or wood substitute items such as scaffolding, staging parts, panels, bins pallets, concrete forms, dry walls, and rook decking.
Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies wood, composite, and wood substitute materials by performing work to close tolerances, exact fit, and structural soundness.
Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies building components such as rafters, walls, staircases, windows, and frames, trim work, and furniture/cabinets, Tape and Finish drywall.
Measures, Cuts & Constructs Building Materials: Independently plans and completes projects in involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams.

Skilled in the operation of general and precision carpentry and woodworking equipment, and can produce finished items with precise fits, accurate dimension, and acceptable appearance.
Ability to interpret complex instructions, sketches, blueprints and building codes. Apply advanced shop mathematics to plan, compute, and lay out more complex and exacting projects.
Skill in setting up and operating the full range of industrial woodworking and related machinery (e.g. routers, band and scroll saws, drill presses). Ability to determine the proper grade, size and type of lumber or wood substitute necessary to complete a project.
Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment by lubricating machines changing and sharpening saw blades and adjusting drive belt tensions.
Ability to mill heavy lumber, cut bevels, rabbets, chamfers, grooves and compound miter joints.
Uses initiative and judgment in accomplishing work assignments. Accomplish all facets of work with minimal supervision. Projects frequently include work that requires close tolerances, precise fit and a finished appearance.
Initiate and complete assignments under minimal supervision. Review of work is primarily for compliance with building codes, objectives, timelines and quality of workmanship.
Responsible for safely operating powered equipment and hand tools and adhering to all safety procedures.
Work requires considerable bending, kneeling and stooping. If the assignment is located at a job site, strenuous physical exertion may be required when handling heavy/bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, and oldling and rooftops.
Lifts and moves materials weighing up to 40 pounds. With assistance, may lift/move heavier items.
