Overview

SJS Executives, an established Prime Federal Contractor, is seeking talented individuals to support the US Navy’s facilities command (NAVFAC) in the execution of it’s broad and diverse mission of facilitating inter-governmental operational requirements, including support of all USMC facilities.

 

Location: Norfolk Naval Shipyard - Portsmouth, VA

 

The Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) will be responsible for the preparation of detailed Fire Protection system/component engineering analysis, calculations and designs, development of plans using AutoCAD, specifications and cost estimates, in support of in-house and A/E design bid build and design build projects, for a wide range of projects.

 

Typical design projects include Naval Shore Facilities, including multi-story offices and quarters, hangars, hospitals, towers, aircraft overhaul facilities, piers, training facilities and a very wide diversity of other new and existing structures and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation of detailed Building Code and Life Safety Code analyses and analysis of fire detection, mass notification and suppression systems. 
  • Prepare designs and plans using AutoCAD, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), specifications, and cost estimates, in support of in-house and Architect/Engineer (A&E) design-bid-build and design-build projects, for a wide range of new or rehabilitated DoD facilities and infrastructure projects. 
  • Analyze existing buildings and building egress systems to determine adequacy of egress and construction type for existing conditions and proposed changes to buildings and building occupancies. 
  • Investigate and recommend corrective measures for deficiencies in existing facilities. 
  • Analyze the applicability of fire protection innovative processes, systems, equipment, or techniques and implement such on projects and specifications. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the latest fire protection systems and methods of construction.
  • Prepare correspondence, engineering studies, and technical reports regarding fire protection and Life Safety related topics. 
  • Apply knowledge of detection and suppression system components and how such components are correctly installed or incorrectly installed. 
  • Communicate effectively issues to technician level personnel responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems and system components.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree from an ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering program 
  • Preferred candidate will have a Professional Engineer’s License, in FPE
  • Minimum of 5 years of Fire Protection System design including at least 1 year working on Capital Improvement projects for a Federal Agency 
  • At least 5 years fire protection engineering experience of increasing complexity after receiving their degree. Experience outside of the area of fire protection engineering, such as mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, does not qualify.
